Google is offering to create free profile for everyone. You can offer your services, describe your experiences, put link to your other online profiles or blogs on your free google profile. Google profile results now appear at the bottom of U.S. name-query search pages. Creating a profile gives you greater control over what people find when they search for your name on Google. You can upload your photo which will make your profile more attractive.
When editing your google profile, to make it easier for people to find your google profile, you can customize your URL with your Google email username (profiles.google.com/yourusername). But this will reveal your gmail account name to the whole world.

Google is the #1 popular website. So creating a profile on google may lead some free traffic to your websites or blog and at the same time can bring some potential clients.

Gmail is getting faster

In spite of all great features of gmail it has a drawback that it take longer time to load on slow connection. Gmail is working to speed up the initial loading process. Already improved 20% on an average. I frequently use gmail but have a slow internet connection. So it's a good news for me.
